German Spitz Mittels are happy and alert dogs, who make good watchdogs. They like a lot of human attention and aim to please. Owners of a Spitz need to be confident and be able to remain in control, as this breed can become too demanding if the owner allows it. So training from an early age is highly recommended.
The German Spitz can adapt to apartment living. They are a fairly active dog, who needs to be taken on a daily walk or jog, they will happily accompany their owner on a 20 mile or a one mile walk.
On average, a Spitz will grow to 11.5 - 14 inches and weigh between 23 - 41 pounds. They come in a wide variety of coat colours, including black, brown, orange, wolf gray and white. The hair on their head is short compared to the rest of the body, but it is still very thick. Regular brushing is needed to prevent matting. Some Spitz do not like to be groomed and need to be taught to stay for the duration of the groom.
